Companion Pet Assistance

We reduce suffering and keep pets with their families

 

Sometimes, pet owners find themselves in unexpected financial situations, either temporarily or as a long-term change in their lives. C.A.R.E.4Paws' Companion Pet Assistance program helps low-income, senior, disabled and homeless pet owners in Santa Barbara County, CA, with basic care of their dogs and cats to reduce suffering and ensure our community members don't have to surrender their beloved companions to a shelter.

Companion Pet Assistance Services
 

We deliver pet food, cat litter, flea medication and other basic supplies to low-income, senior and disabled pet owners in need in Santa Barbara County. We also assist with critical veterinary care (as funding allows), vaccinations, basic grooming and dog training to keep animals happy and healthy and with their families for life.  

 

 

Who qualifies? 
 
  • Low-income and senior community members without the funds to purchase such necessities as pet food, cat litter and flea medication. 
     

  • Low-income community members who cannot afford to take their pets to the vet for critical care. See below for more details about our Veterinary Intervention Program. 
     

  • Pet owners living on the streets with their pets. See below for more details. 
     

  • Injured pet owners who need temporary help with walking their dog or cleaning the cat's litter pan. 
     

  • Disabled individuals who need help grooming their cat or dog, such as brushing and clipping nails. 
     

  • Elderly pet owners who need assistance with cleaning their bird cage once a week.
     

  • Pets in need have to be altered or sign up for a free surgery through C.A.R.E.4Paws.|

Help for the Homeless

Help for pets and owners living on the streets


C.A.R.E.4Paws' Companion Pet Assistance program helps pets and pet owners living together on the streets in Santa Barbara County, whether temporarily or long-term. Collaborating with local agencies and homeless shelters, we supply pet food, pet sweaters and other basic necessities, and also provide access to free spays/neuters and vaccines, vet assistance and dog training for behavior issues that the owner cannot manage. 

Our services
 
  • Pet food at our partner agencies that assist homeless community members 

  • Jackets/sweaters and blankets for pets and blankets if needed for owners

  • Free spays/neuters

  • Free vaccines

  • Flea medication and deworming treatment

  • Free microchips

  • Free dog training for behavioral issues an owner can’t manage

  • Vet assistance and help with grooming.

  • In the works: Temporary boarding for pets whose owners need to transition into a temprary housing or a rehabiltation program. See more details below.

Temporary boarding
 

We are raising funds so that we can assist homeless pet owners who are ready to transition into temporary or longterm housing, find a job and/or enter a rehabilitation program by providing temporary boarding for their pets for a specific timeframe. This program will be reserved for individuals who are referred by a local agency. Want to help? Click here
 

 
Partner agencies and resources available
 

We collaborate with several local agencies, including Central Coast Collaborative on Homelessess, People Helping People, Foodbank, Common Ground/Legal Aid and Santa Barbara Police Department (Restorative Policing/Restorative Court Division) 


How to support this program
  • Refer pet owners in need of assistance. 
     

  • Volunteer your time to assist low-income pet owners in need.
     

  • Donate pet food or supplies. Simply contact us for a pick-up or drop a donation off at a local partner agency. 
     

  • Make a tax-deductible donation to C.A.R.E.4Paws. Even a monthly donation of $10 goes a long way in providing assistance for a pet in need.
