EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH
How we treat the animal companions in our lives is a reflection of what we, as individuals, believe to be true. And however unintentional, public ignorance can lead to heartbreaking truths for dogs, cats and other pets. C.A.R.E.4Paws' mission is to promote responsible animal ownership so that all members of society can make informed decisions that positively affect today's pets and pave the road for our furry friends in the future.
Bilingual/ Bicultural Community Outreach
With a proven correlation between irresponsible pet ownership and the drastic increase in pets found in, and relinquished to, shelters, C.A.R.E.4Paws hosts bilingual/bicultural community awareness campaigns that promote the importance of spaying and neutering, licensing, rabies vaccination and microchipping.
Having identified that the problem of irresponsible pet ownership often comes down to public ignorance and cultural differences, our campaigns target the general public and specific population sectors with a bilingual/bicultural approach. We visit community centers, flea markets, churches and malls to reach the appropriate demographics.
A member of the Responsible Pet Ownership (R.P.O.) Alliance, C.A.R.E.4Paws collaborates closely with Santa Barbara County Animal Services and Santa Barbara and Santa Maria Valley Humane Societies to improve animal welfare in the county. Early Education Outreach
Pets have a wonderful spell on children, but that doesn't mean kids always know how to behave around animals or what it means to properly care for pet. C.A.R.E.4Paws' Pawsitive Thinking program teaches elementary school children about basic pet care and animal behavior and also talks about shelter animals, adoption, the things to think about before getting a pet, and how to integrate a pet into the family.
After all, kids taught to treat animals with compassion and respect are not only kinder to friends and other human beings, but they take those values into adulthood and pass them onto their own children.
We bring therapy pets—all rescue animals with a story to tell—to workshops as well as to special Pawsitive Thinking community events to let children learn about, and interact with, these great therapy animals.
C.A.R.E.4Paws has released a children's book:
Pawsitive Thinking: How to Be Your Pet's Best Pal
(Endorsed by the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at University of California, Santa Barbara.)

K9 & Feline Ambassadorships
During our classroom sessions, we encourage students to become ambassadors for dog and cats through various creative projects. As a K9/Feline Ambassador, a student has the opportunity to share with friends and family members his/her knowledge of animal care and responsibility. We also encourage K9/Feline Ambassadors to partake in our adoption events and other programs.
V.I.P. Shelter Tours
Groups of students can apply for a “behind the scenes” tour of a local shelter to learn about shelter life, volunteering, animal care and the important work of an animal control officer.
