PAWSITIVE THINKING

Because education is the key to change for animals, today and for generations to come, C.A.R.E.4Paws visits elementary schools from Carpinteria to Santa Maria to talk to kids about how to become great pet caretakers. Our Pawsitive Thinking student workshops cover topics such as:

*Basic animal care and responsibility
*Breed types, dog behavior and basic training
*Common cat traits and behaviors

*How to integrate a pet into the family
*Pet overpopulation and adoption
*The importance of spaying/neutering
*Therapy pets
*What to consider before getting a pet

How early education outreach makes a difference
Research shows that kids who learn to show compassion and respect for animals from an early age likely take those values into adulthood and pass them on to their own children. It's the first lesson in empathy, the ability to understand and be sensitive to the experiences of all living beings. Also, just as parental attitudes toward animal welfare play a significant role in developing the attitudes of their children, children in turn will influence their parents, siblings and extended family with their acquired knowledge of responsible pet ownership.

An end to pet overpopulation and suffering...
As the number of animal ambassadors in Santa Barbara County—and beyond—grows, we will see a significant change in responsible pet ownership and animal welfare, ultimately with fewer animals neglected, mistreated, homeless and euthanized in shelters each year. C.A.R.E.4Paws is currently working to expand its Early Education Outreach program to include all 64 elementary school districts countywide. If you are a teacher, school official or a parent with kids in K-8, contact us to arrange a presentation at your school.
